Look after your energy reserves as you head towards the birth by eating well and resting lots.
Your body uses up a great deal of calories and nutrients to produce breast milk, so make sure that you stick to the dietary guidelines right up to the birth and throughout your nursing period.
Keep a check on your fluid intake - you don’t want to get constipated at this late stage. Keep a bottle of water by the bed and try to drink fluid after every visit to the loo.
Finally, though you may not feel like eating anything once your labour starts, try to have at least one or two snacks, even if it is only dried fruit, cereal or a yoghurt drink, as you will need keep your energy up.

The benefits of breast milk cannot be stressed enough. Even if you do not intend to nurse this child, or you experience difficulties
breastfeeding your newborn, try at least to let your infant suckle for the first few days so that she can profit from your invaluable colostrum.
