Your baby is all ready to make an appearance and they will let you know this when their head engages. They can already grip, suck and pee in your womb, and the newborn reflexes are fully developed.
BABY DEVELOPMENT

The latest news from inside your womb, and how to share it with your child

ALL SYSTEMS GO

Your baby’s body is ready for the outside world. Her organs are well developed, her senses have awakened and everything is set for the big day. Based on your antenatal check-ups and scans you will now have a fair idea of your baby’s estimated birth size and position. In the final weeks, your little one’s weight gain will probably slow down and level off. If the head hasn’t yet engaged, it will do so soon and you will once again experience the familiar sensation of pressure low down in your pelvic area. Time to rest up and be patient!

CHILD-FRIENDLY INFO

At 37 weeks, your baby is considered full term and already possesses all her newborn reflexes. She is startled by loud noise, grips at anything that touches her palm and sucks constantly. She also regularly urinates and meconium (the blackish substance that newborns excrete) has accumulated in her bowels – so that she will be born ready to fill her first nappy! Her hair has been getting longer, as have her finger and toenails.
So watch out when she is born as they may be very sharp!
