Article Summary
Babies and toddlers love finger foods so make the most of this by offering bowls of crudities, pieces of fruit and toast soldiers as a starter. Not only are these healthy choices but they are simple and enjoyable to eat.
FOOD
By this age, your two children will be eating fairly similar foods, although of course the
baby will continue to consume lots of milk.
Finger foods are ideal at this age: very lightly cooked sticks of carrots, green beans and broccoli, as well as slices of cucumber, mild cheese, mango, apple and orange, for instance. And your older child will probably enjoy the finger foods too. Children also love dipping toast soldiers into a shared bowl of cream cheese, hummus or egg mayonnaise. It keeps young children nibbling healthily together before the main course is served, and allows the
baby to copy what her brother is doing.
Be creative and make meal times fun for both of your children. There’s nothing worse than a battle at mealtimes with recalcitrant children who refuse to eat. Children who are happy and relaxed at table are much more likely to end up developing a healthy long-term attitude towards food.
