Question:
I have a 13-month-old who will be 20 months when our new baby should arrive. I am wondering about how to get him into his new room and new bed. I do feel that this should be done before the baby arrives since it will be such a change. Do you recommend the use of toddler beds or a regular bed pushed up against a wall and a bed rail for safety, or just a regular mattress on the floor until he is older? added to check if it adds to live server database -- by ekta

Answer:
Don't change too much at any one time. Moving him and introducing a new bed are each big steps. I would always recommend a crib with sides for safety's sake. A crib has the advantage of saying implicitly, "This is where you sleep and we expect you to stay in it." Of course, he may climb out of it later, but start that way. Introduce him to the crib first, then later to his own room. Each step will take time and nurturing patience on your part.
